Animations
I play around with Flash when I can, as it is such a fun tool to use. Every time I do, I am reminded why I got into computers in the first place. I studied animation and video production after my degree, and when I found that I couldn't get the necessary leg-up, I got a computer powerful enough to work on stuff on my own. It's easy to build really sophisticated animations in Flash, with a little know-how, and you can import sound effects to take it to the next level. The tools in Flash give a really seductive shininess to the animation, and I love it.
Here are some of the latest. Enjoy.
Entheogenic Meditation
This is a kaleidoscope effect interactive animation. Drag your mouse
over to move the pivot point. Click 'space' to change the image, and
the up and down arrow keys to change the number of segments.
Little China Girl
This is a simple stop/start movie. But it is cute. The girl just stares
at you morosely if you do not let her dance.
Russian Dolls
This turned out rather complicated to do, with lots
of nested movies. Yes, the .fla file is a bit of a russian doll in itself.
With sound effects recorded in the middle of the night, and music by
Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
Fortune Teller
I made the first version of this about three years
ago, but there was a problem. I had got what I thought was a recording
of counting in Mandarin Chinese off of the internet, and cut it up and
used it for the counting frames of the animation. So I proudly played
my movie to a friend who was visiting, who spoke Mandarin Chinese. She
immediately burst out laughing - the soundtrack was phonetic sound examples
of Mandarin - like "eee", "oooo", "aaaaa"
- and it made absolutely no sense at all.
